- Apr 302:00 PMQuilting Our History: An Exhibit of Quilts by Lauren AustinThe USF Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies is proud to host an art exhibit this semester, Quilting Our History: An Exhibit of Quilts by Lauren Austin, which will open on Monday, February 12. . . . . Lauren Austin is a Florida-based storytelling artist who has worked for over 30 years in the medium of quilts. Austin’s work merges her own life story with that of Black history and cultural memory. Her quilts are large-scale mixed media pieces, incorporating photographic processes, stone lithograph, beading, hand-stitching, and hand-dyed fabrics.. . . . There is an open house reception on 2/12 from 2:00-3:30pm in CMC 202. Additionally, there will be two free companion events – a fabric artbook workshop on February 21 and a public lecture on February 22. The WellFed Community is looking for extra hands for a weekly garden to table education program aimed at improving food literacy in the youth of Ybor City. With your help, kids will learn about what it takes to grow and prepare nutritious and fulfilling meals for themselves and their families.. . . . -Meet every Tuesday at 3 PM at the Ybor St. Community Garden (2924 Ybor St, Tampa, FL, 33605). . -Park along Ybor St., and be careful not to block driveways or impede traffic. . -Wear closed toed shoes and dress for weather (may need hat, sunscreen, bug spray). . -Bring water. . . . Volunteers will work to help set up the mobile market (tent, tables, etc), distribute free healthy groceries to neighbors, and break down/pack up once the market is complete.
