- Sep 12–14Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic Training CourseThe CERT program is critical to engage everyone in the United States in making their communities safer, more prepared, and more resilient when incidents occur. Community-based preparedness planning allows us to prepare for and respond to anticipated disruptions and potential hazards following a disaster. Studies of behavior following disasters have shown that groups working together in the disaster period perform more effectively if there has been prior planning and training for disaster response. . . . . The CERT Basic Training course is an 18-hour course conducted over 3 days (Thursday, Friday, & Sunday). Providing individuals who complete this course with the basic skills required to help themselves and help others in the event of a catastrophic disaster since emergency services personnel cannot help everyone immediately. By working together, the CERT Basic training will prepare lay responders to be able to help save lives and protect property using the basic techniques in this course. With training and practice, and by working as a team, you will be able to protect yourself and maximize your capability to help the greatest number of people after a disaster. The target audience for this course is individuals who desire the skills and knowledge required to prepare for and respond to a disaster.. . . . All three days of the training must be attended to receive certification: Thursdays (5pm-10pm), Friday (5pm-10pm), and Saturday (9am-6pm). . . . CERT Basic Training Program Modules . . . . Unit 1: Disaster Preparedness . . Unit 2: CERT Organization. . Unit 3: Disaster Medical Operations Part 1. . Unit 4: Disaster Medical Operations Part 2. . Unit 5: Disaster Psychology. . Unit 6: Fire Safety and Utility Controls . . Unit 7: Light Search and Rescue Operations . . Unit 8: Terrorism, Hazmat & CBRNE. . Unit 9: Disaster Simulation & Evaluation . . . .
