- DescriptionJoin us at the Nelson Poynter Memorial Library Gallery on Thursday, October 31, 2024 from 2-4 pm to make your voice heard in the lead up to this important presidential election.. . . . For two decades, Sheryl Oring, dressed as a '60s secretary, has typed thousands of postcards to presidents; now, on the eve of a historic election, she is touring the nation through the next administration's first 100 days.. . . . The traveling exhibit features a portable office, complete with a manual typewriter, where participants are invited to dictate a postcard to the Presidential candidates. . . . . The tour aims to capture the pulse of the nation during the final stretch of a historic election. Oring uses carbon paper to create two copies of each message: one sent to the White House and one preserved for her growing archive, which now includes over 4,300 postcards from across the nation.. . . . "These postcards, each hand-stamped with 'Urgent' or 'Past Due,' are more than just messages—they're a time capsule of American sentiment," notes exhibition curator Corey Dzenko of Monmouth University. "They offer unparalleled insight into the evolving concerns of the American electorate over two decades.". . . . Oring will return to the Nelson Poynter Memorial Library in January 2025 to exhibit the letters created from this event.. . . . Sheryl Oring is an artist and educator whose work activates the public sphere by creating open situations for communication and exchange. She is the first artist to join the board of the National Coalition Against Censorship.. . . .
