- Feb 207:30 PMAugust Wilson's Fences at Westcoast Black Theatre TroupeAUGUST WILSON'S FENCES. . DIRECTED BY JIM WEAVER. . . . August Wilson had a massive impact on Broadway with his play Fences, the story of Troy Maxson, a responsible, yet otherwise flawed, black garbage collector in pre-Civil Rights America and a former star of the Negro baseball leagues. Troy now works as a garbage man in 1957 Pittsburgh. Excluded from the major leagues in his prime, Troy has grown increasingly bitter, and his anger and frustration take a toll on his wife Rose and his son Cory, who now wants his own chance to play football professionally. In August Wilson's hands, Troy rises to the level of an epic hero. Deemed a "generational play," it mirrors the classic struggle of status quo, tradition, and age, versus change, innovation, and youth. . . . . After premiering at Yale Repertory Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut in April 1985, Fences opened on Broadway at the 46th Street Theatre on March 26, 1987. In 2010, the play returned to Broadway. It has been produced around the world and is one of the most significant African American plays of the 20th century. WBTT produced Fences in 2007 at the Historic Asolo Theatre and we are excited to present it in our own theatre and to have Jim Weaver direct it!. . . . “August Wilson’s Fences” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. www.concordtheatricals.com. . . . Your tickets will be available at Will Call at the Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe. Please specify that you are a USF student when picking up your tickets. Additionally, due to the sensitive nature of the show, which includes quiet and emotional moments, there will be no late seating. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before showtime to ensure they can be seated on time. --- Event Details: https://bullsconnect.usf.edu/rsvp?id=1974396

- Feb 21–23Bulls Service Break to Give Kids the World VillageBulls Service Break (BSB) is the USF Tampa campus alternative service breaks program in the CLCE. The goal of the experience is to engage in immersive, reflective programs and services focused on moving students from Volunteers to Conscientious Citizens on the Active Citizen Continuum. BSB is a part of a national movement of Active Citizenship whose purpose is to raise awareness of root causes of social issues and injustices through education, direct service, and immersive cultural exchange. Each BSB trip is rooted in the Break Away Eight Components of a Quality Alternative Break, which are: strong direct service, orientation, education, training, reflection, reorientation, diversity and social justice, and full engagement. The social issues explored on each BSB Trip align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.. . . . The BSB experience consists of three critical parts:. . • Pre-Trip Transformation: Prepare participants for on-site, immersive experience and provide initial education, orientation and training about site-specific social issues. . • On-Trip Immersion: Participants work alongside communities to look critically at the root causes of social issues and evaluate the role they have in the community.. . • Post-Trip Re-Orientation: Participants commit to find avenues for continued community involvement and take action locally. . . . Give Kids The World Village is an 89-acre, nonprofit "storybook" resort in Central Florida. Here, children with critical illnesses and their families are treated to weeklong, cost-free vacations.. . . . Serving in a variety of unique and diverse roles, volunteers enjoy a truly rewarding experience helping to deliver happiness and inspire hope for our precious families. From serving "Ice Cream For Breakfast" in Henri's Starlite Scoops and operating our accessible rides, to assisting with wish family check-in, every task undertaken by our wonderful volunteers is impactful and meaningful – bringing us one step closer to transforming lives.. . . . Estimated cost: $40 for transportation, housing at an Airbnb, food, educational and training materials, and experiences.. . . . Experience counts for approximately 25 Community Service hours. --- Event Details: https://bullsconnect.usf.edu/rsvp?id=1972181
