Hurricane Milton Damage Assessments

    Damage Assessment on Saturday, November 02, 2024 and Sunday, November 03, 2024 from 09:00 AM - 05:00 PM Eastern Time. . . . Support our response to the Florida Hurricanes by assisting the Damage Assessment Team. Volunteers will help to collect information of damage to residential structures in an impacted area. This information will help to complete an assessment to provide a full picture of the damage and impacted communities. Your efforts allow the Red Cross to focus on efficient and client-focused service delivery. . . . . At the start of the event, there will be a brief training on how to collect the information. After completing the training, you will drive a Red Cross provided vehicle to impacted areas to collect information. Please note the following information to be prepared for the shift: . . . . • Weather appropriate clothing (no tank tops). . • Close-toed shoes (comfortable spending extended periods of time outside walking) . . • Lunch will be provided; bring any snacks for your dietary needs . . • Bring bug spray and sunscreen. . • Plan to carry water, wear a sun hat, etc the weather is hot and you will be outside most of the day. . • You may be walking through debris covered areas- prepare accordingly for nails, hazardous materials, standing water and other variables. . • PLEASE NOTE: The "Terms and Conditions" sign up has a default message that requires lifting 30-50lbs. This is NOT a requirement for this opportunity. There is no lifting involved. Thank you! . . . . ROLE REQUIREMENTS: . . • Ability to walk for 2-3 hours at a time, in the morning and in the afternoon, often without much shade. . • Good phone app skills, especially working with maps and text entry in the midday sun . . • Strong people skills & compassion, dealing with clients in the field who may have experienced loss of property and health. . • Ability to work as part of a small team in real-time coordination with other field teams, including navigating with online maps. . • Willingness to adopt potential risks like trip hazards, emotional 1:1 situations, walking around the outside of homes. . . .
