We will spend the beginning of the week in the mountains at the center of the island, hiking around Koke'e State Park, Waimea Canyon, and Alakai Swamp. It will be held from May 10th-13th, in Memphis, Tennessee (Memphis Islamic Center, 10299 Humphrey Road) with well-respected shyukh Anwar Arafat, Hassan Sultan, Fahad Taslem, Yassir Fazaga, Maged Mahmoud, and more inshallah. They will be discussing fundamental concepts of Dawah, including the Relationship Between Dawah and Success, Awakening the Fitrah, Empathy in Dawah, the link between spirituality and true knowledge, Prophetic Examples, and more.. . - 2:00 PM1h 30mQuilting Our History: An Exhibit of Quilts by Lauren AustinThe USF Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies is proud to host an art exhibit this semester, Quilting Our History: An Exhibit of Quilts by Lauren Austin, which will open on Monday, February 12. . . . . Lauren Austin is a Florida-based storytelling artist who has worked for over 30 years in the medium of quilts. Austin’s work merges her own life story with that of Black history and cultural memory. Her quilts are large-scale mixed media pieces, incorporating photographic processes, stone lithograph, beading, hand-stitching, and hand-dyed fabrics.. . . . There is an open house reception on 2/12 from 2:00-3:30pm in CMC 202. Additionally, there will be two free companion events – a fabric artbook workshop on February 21 and a public lecture on February 22.
