- 12:00 AM8:00 PMResearch Participants NeededIn the RARE lab at the University of South Florida (USF), we are conducting a research study designed to facilitate robots working both collaboratively and safely with humans. If you take part in this study, you will work alongside an autonomous robot arm to simulate picking and packing medicine bottles. This will help advance research efforts for humans and robots to work together and make the right choices.Humans and robots think a little differently – and they communicate differently, too. Robots aren’t experts at interpreting human body language, and humans aren’t experts at judging what a robot intends to do next in the absence of body language. You can help test new innovations in technology to help bridge this gap for robots of the future! The study is expected to take up to 30 minutes. The location will be at NEC (Northwest Education Complex), room 118, 3220 USF Banyan Circle, Tampa, FL. You must be 18 years or older to be eligible. Nonstudents are also welcome. We will compensate participants with a $3 e-gift card after completing half of the trial conditions, and $3 e-gift card after completing the whole study. To participate, please scan the QR code or visit: https://therarelab.com/rhri8/Prof. Zhao Han (zhaohan@usf.edu) Bellini College of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Computing IRB Study Number: STUDY008877 --- Event Details: https://bullsconnect.usf.edu/rsvp?id=1989009

- 12:00 AM23h 55mTe Moana Meridian: How The Prime Meridian Shapes The World And The Case For Relocating ItSam Hamilton/Sam Tam Ham (b. 1984, Auckland, New Zealand/Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa) created Te Moana Meridian as a vessel for proposing a radical new United Nations General Assembly Draft Resolution to formally relocate the prime meridian from Greenwich, London, to Te Moana-Nui-ā-Kiwa/the South Pacific Ocean. Since its inception at an 1884 conference in Washington D.C., the prime meridian has functioned to implicitly serve the ambitions of the British colonial empire. Rather than serving as a "beacon of humanity," the prime meridian today more resembles a bygone imperial relic. As an original operatic performance and five-channel video installation, Te Moana Meridian proposes to elect a new "center of the world" while acknowledging that doing so has the potential to reframe the dynamics of global power. --- Event Details: https://bullsconnect.usf.edu/rsvp?id=1984371

The exhibition spans two decades of work that spotlights the artist’s lifelong quest to draw attention to global injustices, war, and human rights. One of Ireland's leading cultural figures, Maguire has turned the practice and tradition of painting into acts of visual testimony. Maguire’s paintings are global in scope and are derived from projects undertaken between 2007 and 2024 in Mexico, the Mediterranean, Syria, Sudan, the United States, and the Amazon. Maguire's artworks are painted from direct experience and involve the artist spending extensive time on the ground with the communities that welcome him. Its early faculty and administrators were creative and ambitious, building broad support from community leaders who were instrumental in campus evolution. The campus was established on July 1, 1965, using facilities in the decommissioned U.S. Maritime Service Training Center on Bayboro Harbor. Today USF SP has expanded to 52 sunny acres in the heart of downtown St. Petersburg. The close-knit campus offers an intimate academic experience with the benefits of attending a large research institution. Throughout its history, USF SP has embraced bountiful change as Florida’s need for higher education expanded. This presentation will explore USF SP’s colorful journey and its continuing role as a community dynamo.Presenters:Dr. Thomas W. Smith is Vice Provost of Academic Affairs, Associate Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, and Professor of Political Science. He has worked at USF St. Petersburg since 2000 in various leadership and scholarly roles including Director of the Honors Program.J.M. (Sudsy) Tschiderer has been at USF St. Petersburg since 1969.
