- Oct 1112:00 AMTe Moana Meridian: How The Prime Meridian Shapes The World And The Case For Relocating ItSam Hamilton/Sam Tam Ham (b. 1984, Auckland, New Zealand/Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa) created Te Moana Meridian as a vessel for proposing a radical new United Nations General Assembly Draft Resolution to formally relocate the prime meridian from Greenwich, London, to Te Moana-Nui-ā-Kiwa/the South Pacific Ocean. Since its inception at an 1884 conference in Washington D.C., the prime meridian has functioned to implicitly serve the ambitions of the British colonial empire. Rather than serving as a "beacon of humanity," the prime meridian today more resembles a bygone imperial relic. As an original operatic performance and five-channel video installation, Te Moana Meridian proposes to elect a new "center of the world" while acknowledging that doing so has the potential to reframe the dynamics of global power. --- Event Details: https://bullsconnect.usf.edu/rsvp?id=1984385

- Oct 118:30 AMDog Walking with Humane Society of Tampa Bay and MIMHello MIMbers!Minorities in Medicine have partnered with the Humane Society of Tampa Bay and will be hosting a group volunteering event!HSTB is a nonprofit organization which provides shelter for homeless & at risk animals, adoptions, hospital and TNVR services for the general public. During this group volunteer event we will be interacting with and taking out a group of dogs for a walk. WHERE: HSTB Main Shelter Building - 3607 N Armenia Ave, 33607 WHEN: Saturday, October 11th, 2025, 8:30-11:00 AM WHAT: We will be getting dogs out to walk during this shift. Please always keep an eye on the dog, pick up the poop, and enjoy the wonderful outside area. Please get the dog's name and talk to the dog and interact with the dog as going out with you is their favorite time of day! REMINDERS: Parking - When you arrive, you can park in any of the street parking or in the overflow lots located across Armenia Avenue at Braddock St. or at Gulf Fabrics (this is the warehouse business next door to us, and you will see the HSTB signs for additional parking, but please do not park in the spaces on the Leroy St. side of the building on weekdays as those are needed for Gulf Fabrics employees). Also, please do not park in the lots directly in front of the shelter or in the parking garage as those spots are needed for adopters and visitors. Lots #1, 4 and 5 are the most likely to have plenty of spots and your meeting place will be near Lot #8, so we suggest one of those and then just walk across the street. Where to Meet - Head towards the left side of our building and you will see a gazebo. Please wait in the seating area. Attire – close-toed tennis shoes (NO Slides, Flip Flops, Crocs, or Sandals) and comfy clothes (bermuda short length or longer pants) that will be fine indoors or outdoors and can get a little dirty or wet. Please wear a t-shirt with sleeves (no tank tops, crop tops, or open backs). Allergies – Please be aware that you may come into contact with various animals and we cannot guarantee that you will only work with one animal as the needs for the day you are there might include helping in the areas for the dogs, cats, rabbits, or other small animals. Medical Isolation Areas - Please do not enter any kennel areas with signs stating “Staff Only” or “Do Not Enter” for the health and safety of our animals. Also, please do not walk any dogs with a "Staff Only" Sign on their kennels. Pictures – Please do not take any photos of animals in the Lower Level (Cats or dogs in Kennels 1-6) of the shelter as none of those animals are ready for adoption yet and posting pictures of those animals causes confusion for the public and more work for our Adoption staff. However, If you see any adoptable animals on the main Adoption Floor, you can feel free to take and post pictures of those animals. Hand washing- Very important- Please be very careful to wash your hands (or change your gloves) in between handling litters of kittens or puppies to prevent the spread of any illnesses. This is very important for the safety of these babies who do not have fully developed immune systems. It is very important to watch the dog's behavior while you are walking them for safety, so please do NOT use your cell phone while you have a dog under your supervision. Please watch this video before you come: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHY974SodNc --- Event Details: https://bullsconnect.usf.edu/rsvp?id=1991149

- Oct 1110:00 AMBrian Maguire: La Grande IllusionLa Grande Illusion is a major exhibition of works by internationally acclaimed artist, Brian Maguire. The exhibition spans two decades of work that spotlights the artist’s lifelong quest to draw attention to global injustices, war, and human rights. One of Ireland's leading cultural figures, Maguire has turned the practice and tradition of painting into acts of visual testimony. Maguire’s paintings are global in scope and are derived from projects undertaken between 2007 and 2024 in Mexico, the Mediterranean, Syria, Sudan, the United States, and the Amazon. Maguire's artworks are painted from direct experience and involve the artist spending extensive time on the ground with the communities that welcome him. The results are, plainly put, paintings that visualize the commonality of human suffering and dramatize the plight of people in need. --- Event Details: https://bullsconnect.usf.edu/rsvp?id=1984236
